ALZAR SCHOOL
When we need a classroom, the world awaits.

Adventure in Mexico
Leadership Development Program

In December 2008 and January 2009, the Alzar School will head to Mexico for a multi-week leadership development program.  Students will learn and practice the basics of whitewater kayaking from our basecamp in Jalcomulco.  They will practice their Spanish by interacting with friendly locals and complete a service project.  Learn more about this once in a lifetime opportunity!

Camp Cup Challenge 2009

Revitalized in 2008, the Camp Cup Challenge will be back in July 2009.  This event, hosted by the Alzar School and the American Canoe Association, brings young paddlers from across Western North Carolina together for a great day of paddling.  Participants have the opportunity to try different events, including the Olympic sport of whitewater slalom.  This is a great way for teenage paddlers to join the larger boating community.

Rivers of Chile 2010

Chile is an amazing country that offers an incredibly variety of outdoor adventure experiences.  The Alzar School will be returning to Chile in January/February 2010. We look forward to showing a new group of students why our alumni of 2007 & 2008 fell in love with the long, jagged country and its warm culture.  This expedition will feature a mix of whitewater kayaking and mountaineering, as well as our custom “10 Elements of Leadership” curriculum.

“I joined the expedition to Chile because I wanted to improve my kayaking skills, and yes, my goal was achieved. I would have liked to stay longer and visit more rivers… I ran bigger water than I was used to and felt comfortable.”
