The Alzar School works hard to offer its programs to as many deserving students as possible. Our Board of Directors and administration are committed to raising money for our various scholarship programs to make the expeditions affordable. Currently, we have two different scholarship funds.
Jean Bierle Scholarship Initiative
Sean and Kristin Bierle started this scholarship initiative with the aim of encouraging young women in developing countries to participate in outdoor adventure activities. It provides leadership opportunites they might never get otherwise. This fund is in honor of Jean Bierle, a longtime world traveler and confident woman that exemplifies the qualities we look for in scholarship recipients. With this fund, the Alzar School was able to include its first international student on the Rivers of Chile 2008 expedition. During the Adventure in Mexico 2009 expedition, the fund provided tuition and equipment for two local students. The current goal is to raise enough funds every year to have at least one teen girl from our international destinations on every Alzar School program. Our Sponsors and Partners often provide equipment which we are able to give to our scholarship recipients, allowing them to continue practicing their outdoor leadership skills after the Alzar School leaves. If you are interested in donating to this fund, please contact us. Or, if you're on Facebook, you can join our Cause and contribute directly.
Alumni Fund
In the summer of 2008, Alzar School students and supporters set out to create another, more general scholarship fund. Ultimately, this fund will be available to all applicants, and will be awarded to students showing extraordinary merit. The current focus of the Alumni Fund is to support Idaho students. Alumni of past programs and supporters of the school can choose to donate to this fund. If you are interested in contributing, please contact us or Donate Now.
